The Sugar House is a popular four bedroom house set over three floors with large swimming pool. The beach is a couple of minutes walk from the house along the public beach access road. Looking the other direction from the first and second floors are stunning views of the sunsets out over Prawn Lake.
A lovely circular seating area embedded in the pool is ideal for the kids to play in.
Set around the pool are plenty of sun beds, a cosy seating area under the terrace and a large ‘makati’ covered bed to chill out on.

The ground floor is spacious and open plan with bar, table tennis table, and dining table, opening out onto a covered terrace and enormous swimming pool. There are a wide choice of seating areas around the pool area.
On the first floor are 2 twin rooms (that can be made up as double rooms) with air-conditioning, overhead fans, mosquito nets and they share a bathroom between them. Outside the bedrooms there is a TV room with DVD Player (no discs supplied) with a bar alongside. DSTV is available at an extra charge.
The downstairs bedrooms have concertina safety grills to allow you to sleep with the windows open to allow the breeze through if you prefer.
Each of the first floor bedrooms is air-conditioned with fitted mosquito net and overhead fan. They lead out onto a balcony that overlooks the garden at the back.
On the second floor are two large double bedrooms, each with air-conditioning, overhead fans, mosquito nets and ensuite bathrooms - both with sliding doors onto a private terrace overlooking Prawn Lake. The terrace leads to a large built-in seating area that is the perfect position for watching the spectacular sunsets over Prawn Lake.
It should be noted that The Sugar House is run primarily on solar power during the day as a consistent, seamless, stable and environmental power supply. This runs all of the lights, fans, fridges, freezers and power sockets. This is backed up by Kenya Power when available. Hot water is also supplied entirely by solar power.
There are four Lithium batteries that provide back up power at night that will supply the house with power for 8 hours at 1,000 watts in the event of a Kenya Power failure. If over 1,000 watts are used, then the batteries will last less hours accordingly.
Kenya Power runs the air conditioning units and washing machines when available. There is a back- up generator for use at night at the request of the guests if needed to provide power for the high demand that the air conditioning uses in the event of a Kenya Power failure.
The Kenya Power supply in Watamu is unreliable and erratic at the best of times. Sugar House has done its best to ensure that guests have power and hot water at all times, however this can be challenging given the circumstances in Watamu. Please be considerate and understanding in this respect and failures in the system can still occur.
