The Sugar House is a popular four-bedroom house spread over three comfortable floors, complete with a large, inviting swimming pool. The beach is just a couple of minutes’ walk from the property via the public beach access road. From the first and second floors you can enjoy stunning sunset views stretching out over Prawn Lake, creating a peaceful and picturesque setting.
A lovely circular seating area embedded in the pool provides a sheltered, shallow spot that’s perfect for the kids to splash and play safely.
Set around the pool are plenty of comfortable sun beds, a cosy seating area beneath the shaded terrace and a large ‘makuti’ covered daybed where you can truly chill out and relax.

The ground floor is spacious and open-plan, with a well-equipped bar, a full-size table tennis table, and a large dining table, all flowing out onto a covered terrace and an enormous swimming pool. Around the pool there is a wide choice of comfortable seating areas, perfect for relaxing, socialising, or soaking up the sun.
On the first floor there are two twin rooms (which can be arranged as double rooms) featuring air-conditioning, overhead fans and mosquito nets; they share a single bathroom between them. These bedrooms are fitted with concertina safety grills, so you can sleep with the windows open and enjoy the breezy night air for a comfortable, secure rest.
Just outside the bedrooms is a comfortable TV room with a DVD player (guests should bring their own discs) and a bar area alongside. DSTV can be provided for an additional charge.
On the second floor there are two spacious double bedrooms, each fitted with air-conditioning, overhead fans and mosquito nets, plus private ensuite bathrooms — both rooms open through sliding doors onto a secluded terrace with views across Prawn Lake.
The terrace leads to a large built-in seating area that is the perfect vantage point for watching the spectacular sunsets over Prawn Lake, offering relaxing views and a peaceful spot to unwind.
It should be noted that The Sugar House is run primarily on solar power during the day as a consistent, seamless, stable and environmental power supply. This runs all of the lights, fans, fridges, freezers and power sockets. This is backed up by Kenya Power when available. Hot water is also supplied entirely by solar power.
There are four Lithium batteries that provide back up power at night that will supply the house with power for 8 hours at 1,000 watts in the event of a Kenya Power failure. If over 1,000 watts are used, then the batteries will last less hours accordingly.
Kenya Power runs the air conditioning units and washing machines when available. There is a back- up generator for use at night at the request of the guests if needed to provide power for the high demand that the air conditioning uses in the event of a Kenya Power failure.
The Kenya Power supply in Watamu is unreliable and erratic at the best of times. Sugar House has done its best to ensure that guests have power and hot water at all times, however this can be challenging given the circumstances in Watamu. Please be considerate and understanding in this respect and failures in the system can still occur.
